Evidence before predictions.
A small set of explicit rules. No invented reset times, no opaque AI probability and no account access.
What the labels mean
| Label | Trigger | Banked reset guidance |
|---|---|---|
| HIGH | A human-verified official future global reset signal, weight 80 or more, still within its valid window. | WAIT: review the announced timing. |
| MEDIUM | Explicit future global reset language detected in an official feed, pending verification. Weight 40. | CAUTION: inspect the source first. |
| LOW | No active signal meeting the above thresholds. This does not mean a reset is impossible. | SAFE only when required feeds are current; otherwise CAUTION. |
SAFE means no observed reason to delay based on these sources. It is conditional, not a guarantee. Your need, account eligibility, remaining usage and saved reset expiry matter.
Evidence priority
- Direct, verified official announcement: weight 80.
- Explicit official reset implication awaiting review: weight 40.
- Possible completed reset: weight 15, excluded from confirmed history.
- Historical interval context: weight 20 at most; requires four verified global events with precise timestamps and intervals within 20% of their mean.
- Banked reset notices, general release notes and service incidents: informational weight 0.
We use the strongest active signal, rather than adding duplicated reports. Signals expire after 72 hours by default; an operator can set an explicit validity window. Expired, future-dated and retracted signals do not count. A recent unreviewed community reset report also changes guidance to CAUTION. Pattern context can only change guidance to CAUTION; it cannot create HIGH.
Our initial verified record contains two global events, with only one timestamped completion announcement. There is insufficient evidence for a recurring reset pattern.
Collection and source verification
The official changelog RSS, status JSON API and an explicitly public third-party reset archive API are checked hourly with request timeouts, bounded responses, conditional requests and duplicate detection. We store source hashes, short excerpts, observed and published times, collection outcomes and source links in a dedicated database.
Service incidents describe availability, not usage resets. They never increase the score. Community reports are a secondary source, with weight capped at 15. We do not inherit the archive’s confidence, predictions or claims of verification. A keyword hit is labelled unreviewed and never automatically added to the confirmed reset history.
The OpenAI Help Center guidance was manually verified on October 3, 2026. Automated requests encountered a verification page, so we do not bypass it or claim that this article is continuously monitored. Sources outside the listed feeds, social posts and account-specific offers may be missed.
A required feed failure or a successful check older than six hours changes banked reset guidance to CAUTION. A failed collection preserves previously collected records. Routine collection does not depend on a visitor keeping this page open.
Global, saved and regular resets
A global reset automatically refreshes eligible usage limits. A banked reset is a saved, account-specific benefit that you choose to apply before expiry. A regular five-hour or weekly reset is your account’s normal schedule. A global reset date here is not your personal next reset time.
This service covers public Codex and Work reset announcements. It does not assume that unrelated ChatGPT chat-model limits share those resets.
Privacy and independence
Reset Watch is operated by Salim Notes and is not affiliated with OpenAI. We never request your OpenAI password, session, usage token or payment information, and we cannot apply a reset. There are no advertising or third-party analytics scripts in this MVP.
